A 15-year-old Detroit boy who was already found once and driven home by police has vanished again, and investigators are now asking the public for help tracking him down. Andrew Spicer was last seen leaving his residence in the 5000 block of Crane Street on Oct. 20, according to Detroit police.
Spicer's father had reported him missing before officers located the teen and drove him back home, according to ClickOnDetroit. But the relief was short-lived: after the officer dropped Andrew off at home, he ran away for a second time, per the same report. Police have not detailed the exact date or circumstances surrounding that second disappearance.
Detroit police are now seeking information about the missing 15-year-old, and anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts is urged to contact the Detroit Police Department's 7th Precinct at 313-596-5700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak Up.
What Families Are Told to Do When a Child Goes Missing
Detroit parents and guardians who need to report a missing child can call 911 or the department's Telephone Crime Reporting Unit at 313-267-4600, or visit any city precinct if the child lives in Detroit, according to a guide from Outlier Media. Police typically ask families for a clear, updated photo along with a detailed description covering the child's height, weight and the clothes they were last seen wearing, the outlet reports.
The scale of the issue in Detroit is significant. As of April 2024, the city had logged 381 missing-minor reports for the year, and 54 of those children had not yet been found, according to figures Outlier Media attributes to the Detroit Police Department. The Michigan Missing Child Information Clearinghouse is an information and referral resource; separately, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services maintains a child locator website for children reported to law enforcement as runaways or possible abduction victims.
Other Recent Searches Around Metro Detroit
Spicer's case follows a string of similar searches across the region in recent weeks. The Oakland County Sheriff's Office recently asked for the public's help locating a 17-year-old girl who has been missing from her Pontiac home for over a month, as reported by ClickOnDetroit. Royal Oak police also searched for a missing 13-year-old girl, according to Fox 2 Detroit.
In Redford Township, police asked for help finding a 13-year-old boy who left his family's home in the middle of the night nearly two weeks earlier and had not been seen since, ClickOnDetroit reported earlier this month. Whether Andrew Spicer has since been found has not been reported.
