A dirt bike rider was left with life-threatening injuries Wednesday night after colliding with a minivan near the intersection of Harford Road and Louise Avenue in Baltimore. The rider was taken to a local hospital following the crash, which happened in the 6200 block of Harford Road.
Baltimore police are investigating the collision, according to WBFF, which reported that the dirt bike involved was lime green. Officers shut down part of Harford Road following the crash while they worked the scene.
Drone Imagery, Forensics Team Called to Scene
A Baltimore Police Department traffic unit member worked alongside forensics investigators to gather evidence at the crash site, the station's report noted. Investigators also flew a drone overhead to collect imagery of the scene. The station said it was still working to gather additional information on the incident.
The rider's identity, the condition of the minivan's driver, and the exact time of the crash have not been released. It also remains unclear whether anyone involved has been cited or faces charges in connection with the collision.
Crash Adds to Baltimore's Dirt Bike Safety Concerns
The Harford Road crash comes as Baltimore police continue a broader push against illegal dirt bikes and off-road vehicles. The department said it is ramping up dirt bike enforcement citywide, according to CBS News Baltimore, with a traffic team tasked with removing off-road vehicles from city streets and investigating other vehicle-related crimes. That outlet also reported that a 37-year-old dirt bike rider was killed in a separate crash with an SUV in Northwest Baltimore on a Tuesday evening.
The enforcement push traces back to January, when the Baltimore Police Department launched a Citywide Traffic Team dedicated to reducing traffic-related fatalities, serious injuries and dangerous driving behaviors across the city, per the Baltimore Police Department. The department reported a 75% increase in traffic enforcement in 2025, which included nearly 11,000 citations issued to Maryland drivers with Virginia license plates. By late January, officers with the new unit had already initiated more than 400 traffic stops and issued nearly 370 moving violations.
Seizures and Clashes Mark Months of Crackdowns
Dirt bike enforcement has produced repeated seizures and at least one violent confrontation this year. Baltimore Police seized nine illegal dirt bikes and ATVs at Herring Run Park in late May after receiving community tips about a planned meetup, according to WMAR-2 News, which quoted police saying they expected more enforcement and seizures in the weeks to come.
That same weekend in May, a Baltimore police officer was injured after allegedly being struck by a dirt biker while responding to illegal dirt bike activity near Maryland Avenue and Falls Road, CBS News Baltimore reported separately. Investigators seized 11 dirt bikes during enforcement events over that weekend. In a more recent operation, Baltimore Police seized eight dirt bikes and off-road vehicles and cited several people for traffic violations over a weekend, according to a report from WBFF, which noted police continue their enforcement efforts cracking down on dirt bikes and off-road vehicles.
