Discount Tire plans to open a new location at 4250 S. Preston Road in Celina later this year, with a company representative pointing to a tentative opening in late November 2026. The store will offer tire installation, air checks and tire inspections alongside the tires, wheels and accessories the chain sells nationwide.
Community Impact reported the company's plans for the Collin County suburb. The new store is planned for Preston Crossroads, a 24-acre retail development by Nashville-based GBT Realty Corporation at the southeast corner of Preston Road and Frontier Parkway; development was expected to begin soon, with completion expected by summer 2027, according to Connect CRE. The site plan calls for a 9,800-square-foot facility, with mass grading scheduled for January 2026.
A Shopping Center Built Around a Grocery Anchor
Preston Crossroads is planned around Celina's first Sprouts Farmers Market, a 23,262-square-foot grocery store, alongside roughly 33,000 square feet of planned inline retail space for daily-needs shopping and quick-service dining, according to a report from REBusinessOnline. The plans pair the grocery anchor with inline retail space. The tire store is one of the first committed pad sites within the broader project, the same Celina Watch report notes.
Discount Tire isn't entering an empty field. Automotive service competitor Mavis Tires & Brakes opened a new location just down the road at 4445 S. Preston Road in July 2026, expanding its DFW footprint and setting up direct competition along the same corridor, according to a company announcement from Mavis Tires & Brakes. Mavis operates more than 3,500 retail locations across North America, the same announcement notes.
Why Celina Is Suddenly a Retail Magnet
The timing lines up with explosive growth in Celina itself. U.S. Census Bureau estimates released in May 2026 found Celina was the fastest-growing city in the country among municipalities with at least 20,000 residents, expanding 24.6% between July 2024 and July 2025 to reach 64,427 residents, according to the Texas Tribune. That single-year surge of more than 12,700 new residents topped every other mid-sized city in the nation, the Tribune reported.
The demographics help explain why national chains keep lining up along South Preston Road. Census Bureau American Community Survey estimates published in January 2026 put Celina's median population age at 34.7, according to data compiled by Cubit Planning. The data lists Celina's median household income at $170,894.
South Preston Road's Big-Box Buildout
South Preston Road has seen substantial retail activity, including a 197,965-square-foot Walmart Supercenter that opened in April 2026 and a Costco that opened along Preston Road at Ownsby Parkway, as Hoodline has reported. City leaders offered incentives for a Walmart site at FM 455 and the Dallas North Tollway, according to that same reporting. Access to the area also improved in November 2025, when Collin County finished an 8.9-mile segment of the Collin County Outer Loop connecting the Dallas North Tollway directly to US 75 in McKinney, a $62.7 million project that wrapped ahead of schedule, per Normandy Homes.
Discount Tire's planned Celina location brings the tire retailer to the Preston Road corridor.
