Dogs Inc. has planted a flag in Lakewood Ranch, cutting the ribbon last week on a new 5,000-square-foot visitor center on Lakewood Ranch Boulevard. The nonprofit, which raises and trains working dogs, says the building is meant to put its mission in front of far more people. And the person at the helm for the occasion had barely found her desk.

The ribbon-cutting happened on Thursday, according to Your Observer, and the facility was named the Stephen and Lisa Hyde Dogs Inc. Visitor Center for the couple's donation toward construction. The Hydes provided a $1.25 million matching grant for the project. Veronica Thames was working her sixth day as the nonprofit's chief executive officer when the ceremony took place.

The same report describes what Dogs Inc. does: it breeds, raises and trains guide dogs, service dogs, skilled companion dogs and therapy dogs. Those services are provided at no cost to the people who receive them. The organization says it has fewer than 200 staff members but nearly 1,000 volunteers.

Ambassador Dogs, a Discovery Zone and a Gift Shop

Visitors should expect some four-legged greeters. Bradenton.com reports the center features ambassador dogs, interactive exhibits, a Discovery Zone and a gift shop, and it advertised a grand-opening event for Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. At the seed coverage's account, SRQ Magazine notes the Discovery Zone is where children learn about Dogs Inc.'s process and its dogs.

The same piece says the building also includes comfortable kennels where dogs can rest, and that Dogs Inc. trains dogs at the visitor center and around Lakewood Ranch. Visitors do not need an appointment, per that account. Ambassador dogs often greet people who come through the door.

Aiming at Donors, Applicants and Puppy Raisers

The center is not just a showroom. WWSB ABC7 reports that the organization says the new location will help introduce its mission to more people and connect with potential donors, program applicants and volunteer puppy raisers. The station lists the address as 5815 Lakewood Ranch Blvd. in Bradenton, near State Road 70.

Back when ground was broken in 2025, SRQ Magazine reported the building was planned to amplify the nonprofit's mission in one of the nation's fastest-growing areas. It was also pitched as a home base for instructors, guide dog and service dog students and local puppy raisers. That vision now has a front door.

The facility will host training sessions for puppy raisers, Your Observer reports, and it advertises hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. For a nonprofit that depends on volunteers and philanthropists, a permanent spot where neighbors can walk in, meet a dog and ask how to help is a notable upgrade.
