Dothan police narcotics investigators tore through two homes in the 600 block of Alabama Avenue on Thursday and walked away with 19 firearms, a stash of cocaine and marijuana, and more than $7,000 in cash. A 56-year-old Dothan man, Cedric Ladon Dawkins, was taken into custody and booked into the Houston County Jail.
According to the Dothan Police Department, narcotics investigators executed two separate search warrants at the Alabama Avenue residences on October 29. The haul included 19 firearms described as a mix of handguns and long guns, along with 25 grams of cocaine, 8 grams of marijuana, and the cash. Two of the seized guns had previously been reported stolen, police said.
Charges Pile Up Against Dothan Man
Dawkins faces four charges stemming from the raid: unlawful possession with intent to distribute narcotics, second-degree receiving stolen property, second-degree possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, according to AL.com. Police said Dawkins was involved in the unlawful possession of firearms as well as the unlawful possession and distribution of narcotics in the Dothan area.
As WTVY reported, officers arrested Dawkins after searching the two homes in the 600 block of Alabama Avenue. That account aligns with the police department's own description of the operation as an extensive investigation that culminated in Thursday's warrants.
Investigation Still Active, More Arrests Possible
Dothan police said the case remains open. More charges and arrests are possible, the department noted, describing the matter as an ongoing investigation. No additional details on the circumstances behind the two stolen firearms, or on who else may have occupied the searched homes, have been released.
