Costumed kids and their families flooded downtown Glens Falls on Saturday for Boo2You, a free Halloween celebration that turned Glen and Ridge streets and City Park into a sprawling trick-or-treating route. Storefronts handed out candy, a DJ kept the music going, and the Spooky Shopping Stroll was planned to offer themed, kid-friendly shopping and snacks along Maple Street.

The event was organized by the Glens Falls Collaborative, which bills Boo2You as a family-friendly Halloween party that is free to the public. According to the Collaborative, activities stretched along Glen and Ridge streets and into City Park, mixing trick-or-treating at downtown storefronts and sidewalks with music from DJ Pete and a slate of live performances. As The Post-Star reported, trick-or-treaters packed the downtown corridor for the occasion.

Candy, Crafts and a Few Surprises

The Post-Star's account of the day includes a long list of attractions that kept families moving through downtown. DJ Young Pete entertained trick-or-treaters while the Crandall Library distributed free books, and kids could try out a remotely controlled truck obstacle course or bounce in a bounce house set up near other activities. The Adirondack Thunder's Storm Squad put on a dance performance, and a song in the lineup included a haunted-dance lyric, per the same account.

Grown-ups had their own stops along the way, too. The report notes a quick pumpkin ale was on offer at the Davidson Brothers Brewpub, and DJ Young Pete performed outside the Charles R. Wood Theater as part of the day's offerings. Beyond the Halloween festivities, the Post-Star also reported that North Shore Animal League used the day to run a special promotion, offering half off cat-adoption fees as part of an “Adopt a Boo” push tied to the event.

Counting the Participating Businesses

The Post-Star reported that more than 15 local businesses and organizations were featured in this year's event, while a separate report from WNYT put the figure at more than 15 local businesses and organizations taking part and listed the event as running from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Sponsors and Halloween House Honors

Boo2You drew backing from a mix of sponsors and city partners. Great Meadows Federal Credit Union served as the premier sponsor and Krunchy Kream signed on as the Gold Ghoul Sponsor, with major support also coming from the City of Glens Falls, the Glens Falls BID and Advokate, according to the Glens Falls Collaborative.

The celebration also included Halloween house honors voted on by the public, per the Post-Star's reporting. The home at 2 New Street took the top spot as best Halloween house, with runners-up recognized at 29 Haviland Street and 4 Elizabeth Street. On the business side, Fire Mission Smokehouse and Taproom was named best business, while Turf's R Us and Noirstar Emporium were named runners-up.

In a statement following the event, the Glens Falls Collaborative thanked the homes and businesses that brought Halloween spirit to Glens Falls, and credited everyone who voted and helped make the year's Halloween celebrations fun.
