Downtown Jersey City is throwing open its doors — and its pedestrian mall — for a free Halloween celebration on October 31, complete with a corn maze, a bouncy house, face painting and enough candy to keep trick-or-treaters buzzing for weeks. The Halloween Family Bash takes over the Newark Avenue Pedestrian Mall and plaza from noon to 8 p.m., with an adults-only Terror Tavern waiting nearby for anyone who wants their Halloween spirits a little stronger.
The event is hosted by the Historic Downtown Jersey City Special Improvement District, which describes it as an annual tradition for the neighborhood. According to the organization, the day's lineup will include games, a corn maze, face painting, pumpkins, a bouncy house, music, candy and more, all spread across the mall and plaza. As TAPinto Jersey City reports, the bash is built for families, children and visitors looking for a seasonal destination in the heart of downtown.
Rides, Treats and a Tavern for Grown-Ups
Beyond the corn maze and face painting, Hoboken Girl reports the lineup will also include rides and live music alongside the candy and treats. Admission itself is free, though rides require separate tickets — according to NJ Family, those tickets are available for cash purchase at the Historic Downtown Jersey City SID tent on site.
Adults aren't left out of the festivities, either. The district's event listing notes a special Terror Tavern set up at the Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza, hosted by Grace O'Malley's Whiskey Chapel. It's a pointed companion to the kid-friendly programming happening just steps away, giving grown-ups their own corner of the celebration while the little ones hit the bouncy house and corn maze.
A Boost for Local Shops Too
The bash doubles as a commercial moment for the neighborhood. NJ Family notes that adults can shop from small businesses and street shops along the mall while the festivities unfold, turning the holiday into a draw for both families and the local storefronts that line Newark Avenue.
Rachel Sieg, executive director of the Historic Downtown Jersey City Special Improvement District, said the bash brings families and friends together and offers activities for both children and adults, per TAPinto Jersey City. The district has framed the event as a way to bring the community together and position downtown Jersey City as a seasonal celebration destination, offering what organizers describe as a chance to enjoy Halloween, support local businesses and make lasting memories.
