Downtown Los Angeles is getting a sunny, warm Sunday with a high near 78 degrees. The calm start looks temporary, though: temperatures ease only slightly through midweek before rain chances rise around Halloween.
Sunny Days, Cooler By Wednesday
Monday stays sunny with a high near 80, followed by another sunny day near 79 degrees Tuesday. By Wednesday, overnight lows settle in the mid- to upper 50s.
Winds should remain weak. The National Weather Service expects dry conditions through the first half of the week as the region gradually shifts toward cooler, more unsettled weather.
High Tides Bring A Coastal Caveat
Downtown should stay dry, but people heading toward the Los Angeles County coast should plan around unusually high morning tides Sunday through Thursday. A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect through 1 p.m. Thursday, with tides reaching roughly 7.5 to 8 feet.
Forecasters say shallow flooding is possible along harbor walkways, beach parking lots and bike paths. Surf is expected to remain relatively modest, so the most serious impacts should be limited to especially vulnerable low-lying areas.
Rain Threat Builds For Halloween Weekend
Thursday brings mostly cloudy skies and a high near 69. A possible storm could arrive sometime from late Thursday into early next week. Friday looks cooler at around 70 degrees with a chance of rain, while Saturday — Halloween — is expected to be partly sunny with a high near 67 and another chance of showers.
The latest forecast discussion says measurable rain is increasingly likely across Southern California from Friday through the weekend, although the timing, rainfall totals and wind impacts remain uncertain. That is a meaningful update to Hoodline's earlier outlook, which had raised the possibility of a wetter Halloween weekend.
For now, Sunday is the easy outdoor-planning day: sunny, warm and dry, with afternoon winds around 5 to 10 mph. Keep a light jacket nearby after sunset, when temperatures slip back into the upper 50s.
