Los Angeles is waking up to clear skies and temperatures in the upper 70s, but downtown is headed for a much harsher afternoon. The forecast calls for a sunny high near 101 degrees Saturday as a long-lasting heat wave settles over the region.
Triple-Digit Heat Takes Over Saturday
Saturday’s hottest hours will arrive in the afternoon, with light east winds around 5 mph and no meaningful chance of rain. Sunday should reach 100 degrees, followed by highs near 99 Monday and 97 Tuesday and Wednesday.
Extreme Heat Warning Runs Through Thursday
The National Weather Service has an Extreme Heat Warning in effect through 8 p.m. Thursday for the Los Angeles and Ventura County coast and valleys. Forecasters say temperatures could reach 90 degrees along the coast and 105 in the valleys, where heat-related illness risks will rise significantly.
Warm Nights Offer Little Relief
Overnight lows will remain unusually mild, ranging from the mid-70s to upper 70s through most of the week. Downtown Los Angeles is expected to dip only to about 76 degrees Saturday night, then remain near 78 through Monday before gradually easing.
Plan Around The Hottest Hours
Residents should limit strenuous outdoor activity during the afternoon, drink plenty of fluids, use air conditioning when possible and check on older neighbors and anyone with medical conditions. Los Angeles County advises residents to call 211 for cooling-center information and heat-related assistance.
A Slow Cooldown Arrives Late In The Week
Thursday should still be sunny with a high near 96, while Friday brings a modest drop to about 93 degrees. The broader forecast discussion points to more clouds and cooler conditions next weekend, but for now, the city’s weather story is straightforward: several more days of dangerous heat.
