Dream Con is coming back to downtown Houston for a third consecutive year, with organizers confirming the Black-owned pop culture convention will return to the George R. Brown Convention Center June 18-20, 2027. Early bird badges go on sale Friday at 7 p.m. Central time, starting at $150 for a three-day Weekend Badge.
The 2027 dates land on Juneteenth weekend, a scheduling choice CW39 Houston describes as part of what organizers are calling the “Dreamteenth” experience. Badges go live October 16 at 7 p.m. CST, according to the official Dream Convention badge page, which lists the Early Badge rate for a Weekend Badge at $150 before it rises to $155 once that early window closes. The three-day Weekend Badge grants standard access during regular show hours to the exhibit hall, gaming hall, panels, tournaments and screenings, per the same listing. The convention also offers Premium three-day passes and single-day badges for Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
From a Waco Meetup to a Houston Mainstay
Dream Con wasn't always a Houston fixture. The convention was founded in 2018 by a group of YouTubers and debuted in Waco, according to reporting from The Texas Tribune, before it moved to Arlington, then Austin, and settled in Houston over the past two years. The event is founded and run by RDC World, short for Real Dreamers Change the World, a Texas-based collective of online video creators founded by Mark Phillips and Affiong Harris, the outlet reports.
Dream Con bills itself as uniting fans around gaming, anime, sports, film, music and pop culture, according to its own site. The programming mix has included competitive gaming tournaments featuring titles like Smash Ultimate, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat and Tekken, per RDC World, alongside activations, panels, premieres and an exhibit hall.
A Convention With Growing Economic Weight
This year's event was held in July at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The Texas Tribune's reporting notes that Dream Con generated more than $19 million for Houston in 2025, up from $15 million when the convention was held in Austin the prior year.
Attendance figures for that 2026 event diverge depending on the source. The Texas Tribune reported the record-breaking multi-day convention drew 45,000 attendees, while the Houston Press reported the eighth annual Dream Con brought more than 30,000 fans to downtown Houston in its second consecutive year in the city. Neither outlet's figure has been reconciled with the other.
Programming at the 2026 event, per the Houston Press, included panels covering filmmaking, animation, esports, entrepreneurship, content creation and the creator economy, plus the convention's annual Charity Basketball Game, where popular creators traded controllers for basketballs before a sold-out crowd. That year's guest list included voice actress Cree Summer, Insecure creator Issa Rae, and Boondocks executive producer Carl Jones, according to the same report.
Details on the 2027 guest lineup, schedule, tournaments and exhibitors have not yet been released. For now, the confirmed facts are the dates, the venue, and the Friday badge drop — with fans who want in early expected to lock in the $150 rate before prices climb.
