A driver died and a passenger was left unresponsive Saturday morning after a single-vehicle rollover crash flipped a car onto its roof on McKnight Road in Ross Township, shutting down the busy northbound corridor for hours.
According to WPXI, Ross Police said dispatch received a crash notification from a Ford vehicle around 6:05 a.m. Officers arriving at the scene found the car flipped onto its roof in the northbound lanes between Stevens Drive and Brookview Lane.
The vehicle had heavy rear-end damage, the station reported. Inside were a driver and a passenger; the passenger was found unresponsive, and EMS personnel reported that the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Road Closures Snarled Morning Commute
The crash forced a shutdown of McKnight Road northbound, along with both entrances to Nelson Run Road, according to the same report. Ross Police crash reconstruction personnel and detectives have taken over the investigation, the station noted.
As CBS Pittsburgh also reported, the crash was called in to Ross Police around 6 a.m., consistent with the timeline described by the station's crash notification. CBS Pittsburgh said it plans to share the latest details on KDKA.com and KDKA-TV as the investigation continues.
What Remains Unknown
Neither the driver nor the passenger has been publicly identified, and the passenger's subsequent condition has not been released. The cause of the rollover, including whether speed, road conditions or another factor played a role, has not been determined in any available report.
McKnight Road crash data is tracked at the county level through the Allegheny County Crash Data dataset, which compiles crash incidents reported to police across the county from 2004 through 2024, including injury severity and fatalities. PennDOT does not permit the specific crash date to be made public in that dataset, though the month and day of the week remain available. Statewide crash trends are separately compiled each year through the Pennsylvania Crash Information Tool, though it has not been established whether Saturday's crash will factor into any such comparison.
