A woman was struck and killed while walking along North Dort Highway near Nebraska Avenue in Flint just before 9 p.m. Saturday, and the driver who hit her did not stop. Police are still trying to identify both the victim and the vehicle involved.

According to WNEM, the Flint Police Department's Traffic Bureau responded to the area around 8:55 p.m. Saturday for a crash involving a car and a pedestrian. A preliminary investigation found that an unknown vehicle was traveling north on North Dort Highway when it struck the woman. She was pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by WJRT ABC12.

Flint police have not released the woman's name or age. The station notes that investigators also have not been able to determine the suspected vehicle's color, make or model, since the driver left before officers arrived. It remains unclear whether speed, alcohol or drug impairment played a role in the crash, per the same account.

Police Believe Suspect Car Has Heavy Front-End Damage

Despite the limited description, investigators believe the vehicle that struck the woman will have heavy front-end damage on the driver's side, according to WNEM. Flint police are asking anyone with information to come forward, and the public can contact Flint police or Crime Stoppers, per the station's report.

This is at least the second fatal pedestrian hit-and-run reported on North Dort Highway in roughly two years. In December 2024, a 28-year-old Flint woman, identified by the Flint Police Department as Kira Klee Lovelace, was struck and killed near East Carpenter Road, as reported by MLive. That crash also involved a vehicle headed north that fled the scene, and no suspect had been identified as of two days later, according to the same outlet.

Pattern of Hit-and-Runs in Flint

Flint has seen other unresolved hit-and-run cases in recent months. In August, police investigated an early-morning crash on James P. Cole Boulevard that left a male pedestrian in critical but stable condition, MLive reported. In that case, the suspected vehicle was described as a gray 2012 Chevrolet Corvette with significant damage to its front right corner, believed to be occupied by two men who fled, per the outlet's coverage.

A separate case saw a 28-year-old woman killed in a hit-and-run on Saginaw Street near Moore Street, where investigators said an unknown blue car traveling south struck her and fled before police arrived, according to ABC12.

Statewide Pedestrian Deaths on the Rise

The Saturday night crash comes amid a broader rise in pedestrian deaths across Michigan. State crash data released by the Michigan State Police showed pedestrian fatalities increased 18 percent in 2025, climbing from 156 to 184 statewide. For every pedestrian killed on Michigan roads, roughly 12 more are injured, according to a pedestrian fact sheet published through the state police's traffic safety office.

No arrests have been announced in Saturday's crash, and Flint police continue to investigate. Anyone with information about the vehicle or the crash is urged to reach out to investigators.
