A driver spotted the remains off the busy roadway and called police, setting off an investigation that was still unfolding as authorities worked to piece together what happened.
Henrico Police received a call around 5:30 p.m. about a suspicious situation on I-95 south, according to WTVR. Virginia State Police were on the scene investigating, and troopers were seen putting up a yellow barrier in the wooded area near the exit ramp off Chamberlayne Avenue, the station reported.
Scene Cordoned Off as Investigation Continues
The discovery unfolded along one of the busiest stretches of highway in the Richmond region, where troopers moved to secure the wooded patch just steps from passing traffic. Separately, according to WRIC ABC 8News, Virginia State Police troopers were called to I-95 south near Chamberlayne Avenue in Richmond shortly before 5:45 p.m. for a report of a deceased individual. Troopers found a man dead in a wooded area about 30 feet from the roadway, WRIC reported, though his identity has been withheld pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.
