A man was shot late Friday night in the 3200 block of Kings Realm Avenue on Columbus's east side, leaving him in stable condition at a local hospital with injuries he's expected to survive. Police are now asking anyone with information to come forward as they work to piece together what led up to the gunfire.
Columbus police officers were dispatched to the scene just after 11 p.m. on October 9 after a report of a shooting, according to WSYX. When officers arrived, they found a victim with an apparent gunshot wound, and the victim was rushed to a hospital in stable condition, with police saying he is expected to survive his injuries.
Police have not released details about what led to the shooting, who may have been involved, or whether anyone has been identified as a suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact Columbus Police Felony Assault Detective Stubblefield #2259 at 614-645-4141 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477). Central Ohio Crime Stoppers allows people to make an anonymous call, text or web tip, and information that leads to the apprehension of a felony suspect can qualify a caller for a cash reward determined by the organization's board.
A Busy Stretch for East Side Shootings
The Kings Realm Avenue shooting is one of several recent gunfire incidents reported on Columbus's east side. In a separate case, officers responded to the 500 block of Lilley Avenue at 7:18 p.m. Friday, where police said the victim there was also taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition and expected to survive, the report notes. Another recent case saw a person with a gunshot wound walk into a local hospital on their own early Friday morning, an incident tied to the 3100 block of Allegheny Avenue.
City's Violent Crime Numbers Trending Downward
Despite the cluster of recent shootings, citywide numbers suggest violent crime overall has been easing this year. Columbus police have investigated 35 homicides in 2026, down from 40 at the same point in 2025, while felonious assault cases, which include shootings, stabbings and other violence, stand at 389 so far this year compared with 400 at this time last year, according to data reported by ABC6.
A separate accounting from earlier this year found Columbus had logged just six homicides, the lowest year-to-date total the city has seen in more than a decade, per NBC4. That same data showed none of the year's homicides had stemmed from domestic violence, and no homicide victims or suspects were under 18, though felonious assault data showed at least 10 victims and nine suspects who were minors. For broader context, Columbus recorded fewer than 100 homicides in all of 2025, compared with more than 100 in 2024 and more than 200 in 2021, the outlet reported.
For now, the Kings Realm Avenue case remains an open investigation, with police relying on the public and the Crime Stoppers tip line to fill in the gaps in what happened Friday night.
