A 67-year-old East Hartford man has been identified as the driver killed in a single-vehicle crash on Route 2 that sent his car careening from the right shoulder guardrail, across both travel lanes, and into the concrete median. Connecticut State Police say Richard G. Fusco died at the scene after the crash near the Exit 2 off-ramp Wednesday evening.
Troopers responded to the crash at approximately 6:44 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Hartford Courant. Fusco was driving westbound on Route 2 just before the Exit 2 off-ramp when he left his lane and crashed into the metal guardrail on the right shoulder, per NBC Connecticut.
Car Crossed Both Lanes Before Hitting Median
After striking the guardrail, Fusco's vehicle crossed over both lanes of traffic and crashed into the concrete median, the station's report states. He was seriously injured and pronounced dead on the scene. As DailyVoice.com reported, East Hartford police and state troopers closed off portions of the highway while investigators worked the scene.
The reason Fusco's car veered off the road for an unknown reason, as the same account notes, has not been determined. Connecticut State Police said in a statement that the crash remains under investigation and that no further details about a possible cause have been released.
Investigation Ongoing, Troopers Seek Witnesses
“This investigation is ongoing,” Connecticut State Police said in its release on the crash. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, has related information, or has dash-camera footage to come forward and contact Troop H in Hartford.
No additional details about the crash, including any possible contributing factors, have been made public as the investigation continues. State police have not said when further updates might be released.
