A man was shot by an unknown attacker in East Oak Cliff Tuesday night, and as of Wednesday, Dallas police had made no arrests and were still working to figure out who pulled the trigger and why. The shooting happened on Grinnell Street near Fernwood Avenue around 9:30 p.m., leaving one person injured and sending investigators scrambling for answers in a neighborhood left once again on edge.
According to FOX 4 News, the victim was taken to a local hospital, though his current condition remains unknown. Dallas police said a man was shot by an unknown suspect, but as of Wednesday, investigators were still trying to identify both a motive and the person responsible.
Suspect Remains Unidentified as Investigation Continues
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the search for the gunman was ongoing as of the latest update. The Dallas Police Department provided the information included in the FOX 4 report, but beyond the basic details of the time, location, and the fact that the victim was hospitalized, little else about the case had been made public.
The shooting adds to a string of recent East Oak Cliff gun violence this year.
Another Dallas Shooting Leaves Victim Critical, Suspect Wanted
The East Oak Cliff shooting followed closely on the heels of another unresolved Dallas shooting just days earlier. Dallas police said a man was critically wounded after an argument escalated into gunfire near 9800 Scyene Road, according to CBS News Texas. Officers responded around 10:20 p.m. that Sunday to a report of two men arguing, and a witness told police that one of the men pulled out a gun and shot the other before fleeing the scene.
That victim was also taken to a hospital in critical condition, and CBS News Texas reports the suspect in that case remained wanted as well, with police describing the investigation as ongoing. The two incidents are not known to be connected, but together they underscore how often Dallas police are left searching for shooters who vanish before officers arrive.
Pattern of Unsolved Oak Cliff Shootings
East Oak Cliff has seen a string of shootings over the past several months. A man was fatally shot in the 3300 block of Linfield Road in June, as previously reported by The Dallas Morning News. In April, the same outlet reported that one man was killed and another arrested in a separate Oak Cliff shooting, and in February, the paper reported one person dead and another wounded after dozens of shots were fired during a different Oak Cliff incident.
Those earlier cases stand in some contrast to a citywide trend: The Dallas Morning News also reported in February that Dallas police described a broad decline in crime for 2025. Still, for residents near Grinnell Street and Fernwood Avenue, Tuesday night's shooting is a reminder that gun violence continues to flare in pockets of the neighborhood even as investigators work to track down who is responsible.
