What missing-person guidance and national figures say
The Arkansas Department of Public Safety says there is no required waiting period to report a missing person and advises contacting law enforcement without delay. That statewide guidance does not establish what steps were taken in Cannon’s case.
National figures provide context, not a case-specific explanation. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children says 93% of the nearly 29,000 reports of children it received in 2023 involved children who ran away. In a separate summary, NCMEC says it assisted law enforcement with 29,568 missing-child cases in 2024 and helped bring 91% of those children home. These figures describe reports and cases handled nationally; they do not establish the circumstances or outcome of Cannon’s search.
A separate Arkansas case offers an example of an outcome, not a prediction: the Arkansas Department of Public Safety reported that 9-year-old Kella Jeban was located and safe after failing to return home from school in Springdale in 2019. That case involved a different child, place and set of circumstances.
