Brandeberry Winery in Enon will throw open its gates on Saturday, October 10, for the 17th annual Dogtoberfest, a noon-to-5 p.m. fundraiser packed with live music, a dog costume contest, and a brand-new wine named after a family pet, all to benefit the Clark County SPCA. The event comes as the shelter's donations and adoptions have both slipped, making this year's proceeds more consequential than ever for the small nonprofit's bottom line.

According to the Springfield News-Sun, Dogtoberfest will take place at 5118 Jackson Road in Enon and will feature SPCA dog adoptions, live music from Skip Hoyt between 1 and 4 p.m., food from Freddie's Franks & Burgers, pet photography by Pawz to Pose, a bake sale, t-shirt sales, 50/50 and basket raffles, and vendor booths. The dog costume contest will be judged at 3 p.m., and attendees are welcome to bring their own dogs along for the day. A $15 wine tasting that includes a souvenir glass will also be available, and parking costs $5 per car, with those proceeds going directly to the Clark County SPCA.

A New Wine Debuts at the Festival

This year's signature release is Forever Loyal, a wine debuting at the festival. The $5-per-bottle donation is tied to Lucky Dog.

Brandeberry, who owns the winery, told the outlet the event provides a fun day out for people and their dogs and creates a fun-filled, safe environment for everyone. The Clark County SPCA operates on donations, and those donations are down, the paper reports, while shelter adoptions are also down and are described by Brandeberry as almost non-existent. The shelter does not yet know which dogs will be available for adoption at the event, since the available animals change daily.

Why the Timing Matters for Both Sides

The Clark County SPCA was established as a nonprofit in November 2016 specifically because the county lacked a trained humane agent to investigate animal cruelty and neglect.

Brandeberry raises money for the SPCA each fall through the winery's annual event. For the winery's own side of the ledger, the News-Sun reports that Brandeberry Winery sales dropped 27% from 2024 to 2025, landing around 2019 levels, even though the business planned events each weekend over the winter and through the summer and saw sales holding roughly steady with the prior year. Fundraiser proceeds also help cover the cost of grape juice the winery purchases annually for the following year's winemaking, though those proceeds cover less than half of that expense, according to Brandeberry.

A Fundraiser for the SPCA

Dogtoberfest is an annual fundraiser for the SPCA.

Brandeberry Winery has also supported local causes beyond animal welfare. Brandeberry Winery partnered with FOP Lodge 209 on a Hero in Blue campaign that raised $13,000 to purchase 60 rifle-rated ballistic shields for the Clark County Sheriff's Office; the shields were acquired in January 2023 through the campaign, following the 2022 line-of-duty death of Clark County Deputy Matthew Yates, as Hoodline previously reported.
