Former Haughton High School band director Kevin Williams, 56, is in critical condition after authorities say he shot himself during a struggle with Bossier Parish sheriff's deputies who were trying to arrest him at his Bossier City home. The confrontation unfolded at a house on Spruce Drive as deputies moved to serve an arrest warrant stemming from a sex-crimes investigation tied to a former student.
According to KSLA, a confrontation occurred while deputies were serving the warrant for Williams at the Spruce Drive address. Authorities said Williams resisted, and during the ensuing physical struggle he pulled a handgun from his waistband and shot himself. Deputies immediately administered medical aid before he was transported to a local hospital, where he was reported to be in critical condition, the station reported.
A Case Rooted in the Band Program
Williams had previously been booked on Sept. 22 on 50 counts of molestation of a juvenile and 50 counts of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile, per the same account. The charges stemmed from an investigation into alleged abuse of a former student involved in the band program at Haughton High School, where Williams had served as band director. As reported by Arizona's Family, the arrest and shooting occurred Thursday, with emergency medical personnel arriving after deputies' initial first aid.
Williams was released from custody after posting a $750,000 bond, according to KTBS. Bossier Schools has confirmed that Williams is no longer an employee of the district, the station noted.
Investigation Continues
The shooting incident itself remains under investigation, according to the earlier KSLA report, which has not detailed the exact circumstances that triggered the physical struggle or whether additional charges will follow.
No further information about Williams' medical condition or treatment location has been released. The sheriff's office has not provided additional comment beyond confirming that deputies administered aid at the scene before his transport, and Hoodline will update this story as more information becomes available.
