The entire original cast of Lincoln Center's acclaimed 2016 Broadway revival of Falsettos reunited at Carnegie Hall on October 18, bringing Christian Borle, Andrew Rannells, Stephanie J. Block, Brandon Uranowitz, Betsy Wolfe and Tracie Thoms back together a decade after the show first opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre. Anthony Rosenthal, who originated the role of young Jason, returned as a special guest, while newcomer Matthew Eby stepped into the role for this round of performances.

The 10th-anniversary concert billed itself as a celebration of the revival that opened in October 2016, according to Carnegie Hall, which also confirmed that Vadim Feichtner returned as music director and conductor for the occasion. The original production, built on William Finn and James Lapine's score, went on to earn five 2017 Tony Award nominations, including Best Revival of a Musical, as reported by Playbill.

Sold Out in July, Then Sold Out Again

The reunion shows moved fast once tickets went on sale in July, selling out quickly enough that organizers tacked on a second night to meet demand, Playbill reported in its coverage of the added performance. That scramble for seats didn't stop there — the production ultimately added a third Carnegie Hall date, set for February 8, 2027, because ticket demand kept climbing, the outlet's report on the expanded run notes.

Spectrum News NY1 was on hand as the cast prepared to step back into the material, with NY1's On Stage host Frank DiLella catching up with the Falsettos crew right before their first concert. The segment captured a cast getting ready to revisit a show that first returned to Broadway in 2016 and has stayed a touchstone for audiences ever since.

A Surprise Moment and a Trip Across the Pond

The October 18 show itself delivered an emotional night, with the production's own recap describing sobs and standing ovations from the crowd, plus what it called an affecting surprise built around Eby stepping in as Jason. That account of the evening at Carnegie Hall also confirmed the concert's exact date for the historic venue.

The reunion isn't staying put in New York. Beyond the added February 8 Carnegie Hall date, the cast is scheduled to return to the stage on November 2 as well, before heading overseas. The London run is scheduled at the Palladium for February 23, 24 and 25, 2027. The cast is set to perform William Finn's score once more on that stage, according to the official Falsettos Reunion site.

The Filmed Version Returns to Streaming

For those who can't snag a ticket to any of the live dates, the production's filmed stage version — which originally premiered on PBS in 2017 — was set to return to BroadwayHD starting October 15, per Playbill's report on the expanded schedule. Organizers also said the reunion concerts were given in support of The BroadwayEveryDay Foundation and Family Equality, with Carnegie Hall separately listing BroadwayEveryDay Foundation, Inc. as the event's presenter.

Ellenore Scott, a Tony-nominated choreographer, directed the reunion concerts, working alongside Feichtner's return to the podium. Together, the reunion has turned into more than a one-night nostalgia trip — it's now a multi-city run spanning two more New York dates and a London stand, all stemming from a single sold-out night at Carnegie Hall that organizers didn't initially expect to need to repeat.
