A deadly crash closed down the intersection of Edgewood Avenue West and Cleveland Road in Jacksonville's Magnolia Gardens neighborhood Saturday, bringing traffic homicide detectives to the scene as investigators worked to piece together what happened. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to the fatal collision in the 3000 block of Edgewood Avenue West, shutting down the intersection completely while the investigation unfolded.
News4JAX reported that JSO was responding to the deadly crash. JSO planned to hold a press conference about the crash at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Action News Jax, though details about the vehicles involved, the number of people hurt, and any potential cause had not yet been released. As reported by First Coast News, the crash completely shut down the intersection as JSO traffic homicide detectives investigated the scene.
A Corridor With a Troubling Recent History
This is not the first time Edgewood Avenue West has turned deadly this year. About 11 weeks before this crash, a three-vehicle collision on the same roadway killed two teenage boys and sent two others to the hospital after a pickup truck towing a trailer rear-ended a sedan on July 25, according to reporting by First Coast News and Action News Jax. Both fatal crashes occurred on Edgewood Avenue West.
Earlier this year, a motorcyclist in his early 20s died on March 10 after losing control of his bike in the 2700 block of Edgewood Avenue West near Raines High School, also in Magnolia Gardens, and striking three utility poles, per First Coast News' report on JSO findings. The stretch has also seen pedestrian tragedies: in January 2026, JSO detectives sought public assistance after a 72-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run on nearby Vernon Road between Edgewood Avenue West and West 45th Street, as reported by Action News Jax.
Edgewood Avenue's Wider Record of Fatal Collisions
The broader Edgewood Avenue corridor has repeatedly made headlines for serious crashes beyond Magnolia Gardens. A single-vehicle crash on Edgewood Avenue North near Shenandoah left a woman dead and a man hospitalized, according to Hoodline's earlier coverage. In December 2024, a pedestrian was critically injured in a crash, and an arrest was made.
Countywide, the numbers paint a sobering picture. Jacksonville roads had recorded 127 traffic fatalities through early October 2026, maintaining a deadly pace nearly equal to the prior year, Hoodline reported. Duval County logged 23,013 total crashes resulting in 153 traffic fatalities and 15,480 injuries in 2024, followed by approximately 158 fatal crashes in 2025, per FLHSMV annual figures reported by Pencheff and Fraley.
What Comes Next
