A deadly crash shut down State Road 100 near Black Point Road in Bunnell on Friday night, triggering a traffic homicide investigation that left the roadway closed in both directions with no timeline for reopening. Authorities had not released the identity of the victim or what caused the collision as the investigation stretched into the night.

According to FOX 35 Orlando, the Flagler County Sheriff's Office and local police confirmed the fatal crash but had not released details about the victim or what led to the collision. State Road 100 was completely shut down near the crash scene while investigators processed evidence, and the closure stretched about one to two miles near Interstate 95.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to the fatal crash around 7:18 p.m., according to WESH, which reported that both directions of State Road 100 in Flagler County were shut down Friday night after the crash. The station placed the crash in the area of County Road 5 W, also known as West Black Point, in Bunnell. Bunnell police, the Flagler County Sheriff's Office and Florida Highway Patrol were investigating the incident as a traffic homicide.

Drivers Told to Seek Alternate Routes

Authorities advised motorists to avoid State Road 100 and use alternate routes while crews worked the scene, the station's report noted. As of Friday night, officials had not given an estimate for when the roadway would reopen.

A Stretch of Road With a Troubled Recent History

This is not the first time this year that a fatal wreck has closed down this corridor. A deadly crash shut down all lanes on State Road 100 in Bunnell just before noon on February 2, 2026, according to News4Jax, with that crash reported around 11:11 a.m. near the intersection with Bertha Road.

Months later, on July 2, 2026, a tractor-trailer and pickup collided on West State Road 100 in western Flagler County, producing one fatality and one serious injury, per the same outlet's account. Investigators said a Chevrolet Silverado had been traveling onto State Road 100 from West Black Point when it pulled in front of a westbound Mack Pinnacle tractor-trailer. The Mack driver, a 52-year-old man, died at the scene, while the 31-year-old Chevrolet driver was hospitalized with serious injuries, the report said.

Separately, The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported that a Palatka man was killed and a Bunnell man was seriously injured in that same July 2 crash at State Road 100 and Black Point Road, citing the Florida Highway Patrol. The patrol said it was unknown whether either driver had been wearing a seatbelt.

No further details on Friday's crash, including the victim's identity or the circumstances that led to it, had been released as of late Friday night. Hoodline will update this story as the Flagler County Sheriff's Office and Florida Highway Patrol release additional information.
