The station reported that the wounded man transported himself to a different hospital, and his condition was unknown at the time. A separate account from Baldwin Park News Online described the Oct. 2, 2026, shooting at the medical center's parking structure and reported that at least one person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Scramble as Hospital Seals Its Doors in 2020
During the Sept. 2, 2020, shooting, police received calls shortly after 8 a.m. reporting gunshots near the hospital in the 1000 block of Baldwin Park Boulevard, per ktla.com. The medical center was placed on lockdown as police searched for the gunman, the outlet reported, a precaution aimed at keeping patients and staff safe while the area was swept. The search was eventually called off after authorities determined the shooter had likely left the area, and the lockdown lifted not long after.
Descriptions of the shooter in the 2020 case varied between outlets covering the incident. ABC7 described him as a Hispanic man in his 30s, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 220 pounds, while KTLA's report characterized the suspected assailant as a man between 20 and 30 years old who fled on foot. Those differing descriptions have not been reconciled in available reporting.
Suspect Later Located, Police Say
Officers eventually located and arrested a man in the 13100 block of Amar Road after community members reported seeing a possible suspect, according to sgvcitywatch.com. In the separate Sept. 2, 2020, shooting, one man fired multiple times and struck another adult male at least once; the wounded man returned fire. The relationship between the two men and any motive for the confrontation have not been established in the reporting reviewed.
Shootings near this particular hospital are not without precedent. A previous shooting outside Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center left one man wounded and prompted a nearly two-hour lockdown, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. In that earlier case, police had received 911 calls about shots fired at the hospital shortly after 8 a.m., and the wounded victim went to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center, though officers did not know his condition at the time. That lockdown was lifted around 9:45 a.m., with the hospital saying all patients and staff were safe. Separately, CBS News has reported that a male physician was shot and wounded at the same Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center and was treated inside the hospital.
