A man was shot and killed inside a residence on Bain Drive in Fayetteville Saturday night, the fourth fatal shooting to strike the city since Sept. 25. Officers arrived to find him with a gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released as investigators work to notify his closest relative.
Fayetteville police officers responded to a shooting report just after 11:20 p.m. Saturday in the 1900 block of Bain Drive, off Murchison Road, according to a police news release cited by charlotteobserver.com. Officers found the man suffering from a gunshot wound inside the home, and he died before help could save him. As reported by WRAL, the investigation remains ongoing, and the man's name will be released only after his closest relative has been contacted.
A City Already on Edge
The Bain Drive killing came three days after the Amanda Circle shooting and two days after the Cliffdale Road shooting. Per the same police account, Saturday's death marked the city's third deadly shooting over a three-day span, a grim streak that stretches back further still. The station's report notes that this was in fact the fourth fatal shooting in Fayetteville since Sept. 25.
The string of violence began on Sept. 25, when 21-year-old Shawn Williams Jr., of Fayetteville, was found shot and pronounced dead at the scene in the 2100 block of Cedar Creek Road. No arrests had been announced in his death. Five days later, on Sept. 30, 34-year-old Andrew Brown of Parkton was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the roadway in the 6500 block of Amanda Circle, near Strickland Bridge Road. Brown was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. No arrests had been announced in his death either.
An Arrest in the Third Case
The third shooting in the sequence happened Oct. 1, when 20-year-old Jordan Shiquan Brown, also of Fayetteville, was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the 8200 block of Cliffdale Road and was pronounced dead at the scene. Unlike the other two cases, this one led to a swift arrest. Police charged 18-year-old Ladarrius Blacknall with first-degree murder, and he is being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond, according to WRAL's reporting on that case.
No arrests have been announced in the Bain Drive shooting. Police have asked anyone with information to contact Detective B. Pleze, though the listed contact number differs between outlets: WRAL published the number as (919) 676-2596, while CBS17 listed it as (910) 676-2596. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Fayetteville/Cumberland County Crime Stoppers by calling 910-483-TIPS (8477).
The Numbers Behind the Headlines
The recent cluster of killings comes even as citywide homicide totals have trended downward this year. Fayetteville reported 14 homicides during the first six months of 2026, a 46.15 percent decrease from the same period in 2025, according to CityView. The outlet also reported a 100 percent homicide clearance rate for the Fayetteville Police Department during that stretch.
That improvement in homicide numbers sits alongside a broader rise in violent crime overall. Reported crime in the city increased 1.45 percent, or 100 incidents, during the first six months of 2026, rising from 6,898 incidents in 2025 to 6,998 this year, per the same report. Violent crimes against persons specifically climbed 12.54 percent, from 1,564 to 1,740 incidents, while total arrests rose 3.56 percent, from 3,368 to 3,488.
