A police search of a nearby vehicle in Fells Point turned up a multi-bladed weapon Tuesday night, after a woman reported that a man with a knife had tried to get into her car. Officers were already at a separate crime scene near Broadway Market when she approached them.
A Woman's Report Leads Police to a Second Driver
According to WBFF, the woman told officers the man had been traveling behind her in another vehicle. Police located him in the 600 block of South Broadway.
WBFF reported that officers detained the man and handcuffed him. An ambulance was called, and two medics examined a wound on his hand, the station reported.
Search Uncovers an Elaborate Blade
Officers searched the vehicle the man had been driving and found what WBFF described as an elaborate, knife-like weapon with multiple blade edges.
A crime-lab technician was already at the scene collecting evidence for an unrelated case, according to WBFF. An officer brought the weapon to the technician, and investigators placed it in a box as evidence. WBFF reported that the man was arrested; the specific charges have not been reported.
What Maryland Law Says About Unusual Blades
Maryland law defines a star knife as a throwing weapon made of several sharp or pointed blades arranged as radial arms around a central disk. Separately, state law prohibits wearing or carrying a dangerous weapon concealed on or about a person, according to the Maryland General Assembly. Available reporting does not establish whether the recovered object meets the statutory definition of a star knife, or what charges, if any, the man faces.
How Courts Assess Dangerous Weapons
A Maryland appellate opinion says whether an item is a “dangerous weapon” under § 4-101(c)(1) depends on the circumstances and is for the factfinder to decide, according to Vanison v. State of Maryland. That standard does not by itself establish whether an object found in a car qualifies as a dangerous weapon or prove a specific concealed-weapon offense.
Fells Point's Recent History With Weapons Cases
Tuesday's incident is not the only recent case to put weapons and the Broadway Market area in the spotlight. WBFF has also reported on a double shooting in Fells Point that injured a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old woman, which happened in the 600 block of South Broadway around 2 a.m. on a Saturday. In that case, investigators alleged a man named Jay Carter ditched a Polymer80 ghost gun in a bush on South Bond Street.
Baltimore police reported broader progress on violent crime in the first half of 2026. The department's mid-year report recorded 50 homicides through July 1, compared with 65 over the same period in 2025, and said non-fatal shootings fell 2.5%. It also reported a 60% homicide clearance rate for the first half of the year. Separately, the Baltimore Police Department said its Laboratory Section had reduced its forensic backlog by 20% since the beginning of the year.
