A fire tore through a home in East Greenwich Township, Gloucester County, leaving the structure essentially destroyed as crews from multiple fire departments battled the flames. No injuries were reported, and the homeowners and their pets escaped on their own.
According to NBC10 Philadelphia, the fire broke out Tuesday night, and SkyForce10 captured footage from above showing firefighters battling a blaze that had already essentially destroyed the home by the time the station's helicopter arrived on scene. The outlet reported that Kings Highway was shut down between Democrat Road and Cohawkin Road because of the fire, according to officials on social media, though it's unclear how long the closure lasted.
A separate fire, covered by News 12 New Jersey in a report published June 4, 2025, started early Wednesday morning, with bright orange flames shooting from the structure. Fire officials told the station the blaze was contained to a single building, and News 12's report noted that no injuries had been reported and that the cause remained under investigation.
Crews Conduct Interior Attack, Rescue Pets
A first-responder account published by 1st Responder News offers more detail on the firefighting operation itself. The East Greenwich Fire Department responded to the reported dwelling fire alongside four mutual-aid departments — the Gibbstown Volunteer Fire Company, Paulsboro Volunteer Fire Department, West Deptford Fire Department, and Logan Township Fire Department.
Upon arrival, crews found fire showing on Division 2 of the Delta side of the structure and pushed into an interior attack, per the outlet's account. Firefighters searched the home and found no occupants inside; the homeowners and their pets had escaped on their own. That report also confirmed no injuries were reported among firefighters or residents.
Cause Still Under Investigation
News 12 reported that the cause of the fire remained under investigation, while NBC10 said there was no word yet on what sparked the fire it covered.
The extent of the damage to the home, along with details about who lived there, has not been made public. For now, officials are continuing to investigate what caused the fire that left the East Greenwich Township house essentially destroyed.
