A flipped-over vehicle and the sound of gunshots brought Houston police to a stretch of north Houston on Monday afternoon, where officers are now trying to piece together what happened before a man ran from the scene. Investigators have not said whether anyone was hurt.
According to the Houston Police Department, shots were fired in north Houston on Monday afternoon, and officers responded to a reported shooting at 1:20 p.m. at 13501 Ella Boulevard, as reported by ABC13 Houston. Police said someone called 911 because a vehicle had been found flipped over, and that the caller heard gunshots as a man ran off. Officials did not say whether anyone was injured by the reported gunfire, and details about what led up to the shooting remain limited, the outlet notes.
What Police Have — and Haven't — Said
A man ran from the scene after gunshots were heard near a flipped vehicle.
HPD has not said what sparked the gunfire or how the flipped vehicle factors into the sequence of events. For now, the investigation is active, and the station's report offers no timeline for when more details might be released.
Ella Boulevard's Recent History of Gunfire
This is not the first time gunfire has drawn police to Ella Boulevard. In August 2026, Precinct 4 constable deputies responded around 8 p.m. on a Saturday to a shooting at an apartment complex near Ella Boulevard and Kuykendahl Road, according to FOX 26 Houston. Deputies found an 18-year-old man with a gunshot wound lying next to a vehicle at the complex entryway, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Residents told detectives they heard a single gunshot but no argument beforehand, and no suspects were at the scene when authorities arrived, FOX 26 reported.
A separate shooting left another man dead at an apartment complex in the 14300 block of Ella Boulevard, near Greenwell Drive, after a shooting reported around 11 p.m. on a Monday night, FOX 26 reported in a different account. A witness there reported hearing multiple gunshots and finding a man in his early 20s who had been shot; he died at the scene. Authorities had not identified a suspect in that case but said three people in their late teens or early 20s might be involved.
The Houston Police Department has also published older records tied to the same address under investigation Monday — including a 2020 release describing the shooting of a man and a woman at 13501 Ella Boulevard — though the evidence available does not establish any connection between that case and Monday's incident. The dossier similarly does not tie a 2024 aggravated-assault case nearby on Ella Boulevard to the current investigation.
Context Without Conclusions
The Houston Police Department publishes monthly crime data broken down by street and police beat, but the department cautions against making raw comparisons between different beats, according to information posted by the City of Houston. That caution underscores why Monday's shooting, despite unfolding on a corridor with a documented history of gun violence, cannot be assumed to be linked to any prior case without confirmation from investigators.
For now, HPD's account remains limited to the basics: a flipped vehicle, gunfire, a man running from the scene, and an investigation that is still underway.
