Omaha woke Thursday under mostly cloudy skies with temperatures around 66 degrees, and more showers remain possible before noon. The bigger concern is water: a Flood Watch remains in effect across the Omaha area through 7 p.m., with flooding possible in low-lying and already saturated spots.
The National Weather Service Omaha/Valley expects a high near 68 degrees before temperatures slide into the mid-60s this afternoon. North winds will run 8 to 13 mph, with gusts up to 22 mph, while additional rainfall could reach roughly a half-inch to three-quarters of an inch in some locations.
Flood Watch Covers Omaha-Area Counties
The watch includes Douglas, Sarpy and Washington counties, along with several surrounding areas in eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa. Forecasters say prolonged rainfall could push creeks, streams and other flood-prone areas higher, with heavier storm totals possible in parts of the region.
Drivers should avoid water-covered roads and give themselves extra time for the Thursday commute, especially near low spots and poor-drainage areas. The National Weather Service flood safety guidance remains simple: turn around rather than risk crossing a flooded roadway.
Friday Brings A Much-Needed Break
Rain chances drop sharply Thursday night as skies turn partly cloudy and temperatures fall to around 48 degrees. Friday looks sunny and cooler, with a high near 64 and light northeast winds.
The weekend should be far more cooperative for outdoor plans. Saturday and Sunday are both forecast to be sunny with highs near 69 degrees, while overnight lows settle in the upper 40s to mid-50s.
Warmer Weather Returns Next Week
Mostly sunny conditions continue Monday with a high near 66 degrees, followed by a warmer Tuesday near 72. Wednesday may reach about 74 degrees under mostly sunny skies, giving the Omaha area a quiet stretch after Thursday's soggy start.
