Washington is starting Thursday under cloudy skies and patchy fog, but the murky morning should give way to a warm, partly sunny afternoon near 72 degrees. The bigger forecast story is a brief late-October warm spell that peaks Friday before cooler, more seasonable air settles in for Halloween weekend.
Fog Fades Before A Warm Afternoon
Patchy fog is expected through roughly 10 a.m., with visibility improving as temperatures climb through the 50s. By midday and early afternoon, skies should brighten, winds will turn southerly at around 5 to 7 mph, and rain is not expected, according to the National Weather Service.
Thursday night looks mostly clear with a low near 52 degrees. The District has no active weather advisory, although dense fog advisories are posted in portions of Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia outside Washington.
Friday Brings Sunshine And Gusty Winds
Friday should be the warmest day of the stretch, with sunshine and a high near 75 degrees. Winds will shift west and could gust from 23 to 29 mph around midday and early afternoon, so lightweight Halloween decorations may need more than good intentions to stay put.
Temperatures then turn cooler Friday night. Saturday should be mostly sunny, with a high near 66, while Halloween night stays mostly cloudy and falls to about 49 degrees.
Dry Halloween, More Clouds Next Week
Saturday’s forecast remains dry, making for generally favorable conditions for outdoor Halloween plans, though evening temperatures will call for a jacket. Sunday should stay mostly cloudy near 69 degrees, followed by a mostly cloudy Monday near 69.
Rain chances remain limited through early next week, but a slight chance of showers arrives Tuesday night and becomes more noticeable Wednesday. The latest outlook is a substantive update to Hoodline’s earlier D.C. forecast, which had placed more emphasis on rain chances Sunday night and Monday.
