The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is asking for help finding Jennifer Suree Moses, 50, who was last seen around 6:19 p.m. Sunday near Heflin Avenue East in Forestdale. Deputies said they are concerned that a condition affecting her judgment could put her at risk. She was wearing white pants and a multicolored shirt.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office requested public help locating Moses, according to WVTM 13, which reported the search Monday. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff's office at (205) 731-2844.
Statewide Alert Issued Through ALEA's Fusion Center
The case has also drawn a broader response. The alert for Moses was issued in coordination with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, according to a post from meteorologist James Spann on Facebook. ALEA publishes alerts on its website and distributes them through CodeRED. That kind of statewide push is possible because Alabama's Missing and Endangered Person Alert framework allows law enforcement to request alerts for missing adults 18 or older who have qualifying mental or physical conditions that impair judgment, with no mandatory waiting period before filing a report, per reporting from Yellowhammer News.
The framework exists in part because state lawmakers wanted to close a gap in coverage. In September 2023, the Alabama Legislature expanded the alert system's criteria to include missing adults facing physical risks or abduction, broadening eligibility beyond the state's former Senior Alert system, Yellowhammer News reported at the time.
What the Alert Covers
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency lists people missing while living with specified disabilities or conditions, as well as people who have been abducted and are believed to be in danger, among the criteria for a Missing and Endangered Person Alert. Those criteria do not establish which, if any, applies in Moses’s case. ALEA reported that its Fusion Center issued 90 missing-person alerts statewide in 2025, including 67 Missing and Endangered Person Alerts. Those figures describe that year’s alert activity and do not establish a trend.

How To Report Tips or Sign Up for Alerts
Members of the public with information on Moses's whereabouts can call the sheriff's office at (205) 731-2844. Residents can also receive real-time mobile notifications for missing and endangered adults by enrolling in Alabama's CodeRED emergency notification system or texting “ALALERTS” to 24639, per the agency.
The sheriff's office has handled a July 2026 search for a 68-year-old Lipscomb man who walked away from his home. A Fairfield man was reported missing in July 2025. Deputies have not released further details on whether Moses had access to a vehicle or medication, and the exact boundaries of the current search area around Heflin Avenue East have not been made public.
