A former Green Middle School teacher is facing rape and sexual battery charges after a woman told Summit County investigators that he began sexually abusing her when she was just 13 years old, nearly three decades ago. Gary Daniel Huff, known as Dan Huff, now 64 and living in North Canton, was booked into the Summit County Jail after a grand jury returned a nine-count indictment against him.

According to FOX 8 News, the woman, now 42, told detectives she had numerous sexual encounters with Huff between 1997 and 1999, both on and off school property. She contacted investigators in October 2025 to report what happened to her as a teenager, more than 25 years after the alleged abuse reportedly began.

Nine-Count Indictment Follows Grand Jury Review

The Summit County grand jury indicted Huff on three first-degree felony counts of rape and six third-degree felony counts of sexual battery. The report notes he was indicted Tuesday, Sept. 29, with the charges formally alleging he engaged in sexual activity with the victim starting when she was 13.

The following day, the U.S. Marshals' Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Huff and booked him into the Summit County Jail, the station's report states. Huff retired from the Green Local School District in May 2017, after years working there as a teacher.

Investigators Say More Potential Victims May Exist

Detectives have also identified additional female students who allegedly engaged in sexual activity with Huff during his time with the Green Local School District, per the same account. The Summit County Sheriff's Office said its investigators are still working to identify more potential victims, suggesting the case could widen beyond the woman who first came forward.

No court dates had been set at the time of the report, court records show. The evidence laid out so far establishes only the charges against Huff; it does not establish guilt, and no response from Huff or an attorney representing him has been reported.

Part of a Broader Pattern in Northeast Ohio Schools

Huff's case follows other recent Northeast Ohio prosecutions involving former educators accused of abusing students years before charges were filed. In April 2026, 37-year-old Chad Kendall pleaded guilty to six counts of sexual battery, all third-degree felonies, involving two Archbishop Hoban High School students, according to cleveland.com. Prosecutors in that case said Kendall sexually abused the students for multiple years while they were between 16 and 17 years old.

For now, the Huff case remains in its early stages, with investigators continuing to look for additional people who may have been affected during his years at Green Middle School.
