Fort Getty in Jamestown turns into a free Halloween playground this Saturday as Fright Night VI brings a Halloween village, carnival games, live music and a closing bonfire to the waterfront park. The event has grown steadily since it launched, with costumed visitors drawn to its Halloween village.

Fright Night VI is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, marking its sixth consecutive year at Fort Getty, according to The Jamestown Press. The newspaper lists the event running from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., while a page on the Town of Jamestown's website lists the hours as 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a rain date of Sunday, Oct. 25, if the weather doesn't cooperate. Admission is free either way, and the Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring the gathering.

A Halloween Village Takes Over the RV Park

The signature draw remains the Halloween village set up at Fort Getty's RV park, where trailer sites get decorated so children can go trick-or-treating site to site, per the Press's reporting. Visitors are encouraged to come in costume and enter the costume contest, which has categories for all ages, from toddlers to adults. Carnival games will also be set up around the grounds, and the night wraps with a bonfire.

Fright Night VI director Ray DeFalco, who heads the parks and recreation department, invited families to attend in costume for Halloween fun at Fort Getty, the department's report notes. The event has become something of a fixture on Jamestown's fall calendar, with the same mix of trick-or-treating, games and music drawing families back year after year.

Live Music and a Local Witch Dance Troupe

Live music comes courtesy of Purple Honey, a band that plays classic tunes blended with reggae, rock, jazz and pop elements, the Jamestown Press reported. Band members have said their set brings fun vibes and a knack for getting people up and dancing, the Jamestown Press reported.

Also performing will be the Southern New England Witch Dancers, described as the region's chapter of the Wolfshager Hexenbrut. The troupe is directed by Bernie Courtney, a Jamestown resident, per the same article.

Crowds Have Climbed Each Year

Fright Night has built its audience steadily since debuting at Fort Getty. The event attracted about 1,500 visitors in 2023 and more than 1,500 again in 2024, according to an earlier Jamestown Press report. Last year's turnout jumped further, with the 2025 festivities pulling in 1,800 visitors and nearly 600 cars, this year's Press report states.

Earlier editions give a sense of how the format has evolved. Fright Night V in 2025 was set to begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, while the 2024 event ran from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, with Oct. 20 set as a rain date, according to prior Press coverage. That 2024 gathering also featured the RV-park Halloween village, carnival games, a bonfire, live music from Purple Honey and a costume contest — largely the same lineup returning this weekend.

Food has been part of the draw in past years too. The 2024 event's food vendors offered items including grilled cheese, brisket, lobster, tacos, pizza, poke bowls, fried chicken, hot dogs, burgers, french fries and ramen noodles, the Press reported at the time.

For families looking to extend the Halloween spirit beyond Fort Getty, the Jamestown Art Center is sponsoring a spooky lantern walk as a separate seasonal offering in town.
