A shoe sale near Avondale Haslet Road and Sendera Ranch Boulevard in Fort Worth turned violent Friday morning when the person selling the shoes was robbed and shot during the meetup, according to police. A suspect was taken into custody, but officers were still searching for the weapon used in the shooting.
Investigators said the victim had arranged to meet a buyer to sell shoes at the intersection, and the deal went sideways fast. As WFAA reported, the victim was shot during what police described as a robbery stemming from the sale. According to FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth, investigators said simply, “During the meeting, the suspect robbed and shot the victim.”
Police responded to the shooting call near that intersection at 9:54 a.m. Friday, per the station's report. A separate account put the shooting itself at about 9:45 a.m. in the same area, though the exact sequence between those two times has not been independently confirmed.
Victim Described as Older Teenager, Condition in Dispute
The person who was shot was described by a fire department spokesperson as an older teenager, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Police have not released whether the victim is male or female, the paper noted.
Accounts of the victim's medical status conflict. The Star-Telegram reported that a fire department spokesperson said the victim was taken to a hospital in stable condition. FOX 4, meanwhile, reported that the victim's current medical condition remains unknown, creating conflicting accounts of the victim's status.
Suspect in Custody, Search for Gun Continues
A suspect was in custody as of midday Friday, the Star-Telegram reported, though officers were still searching for the gun used in the shooting. Police have not released the identity of the suspect in custody, FOX 4 reported, and it remains unclear what charges, if any, the suspect may face.
Gun Violence Detectives are investigating the incident, according to the station's report. The investigation remained ongoing Friday, with no further details released on how the suspect was identified or apprehended.
A Second Violent Incident in Sendera Ranch This Year
Friday's shooting is not the only violent incident reported in the Sendera Ranch area this year. In July, Fort Worth officers responded to a shots-fired call in the 900 block of Rio Bravo Drive at around 8:30 a.m., according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. In that case, police said they were able to locate the suspects' vehicle and detain the occupants based on information from callers and witnesses.
Online jail records showed three people — 18-year-old Damoni Butler, 20-year-old Davirion Sams, and 21-year-old Walter Frazier — were arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with that July case, per the same outlet. A Sendera Ranch resident told the paper at the time that crime and other types of violence in the area have become increasingly common since the COVID-19 pandemic, though that comment reflects one resident's personal impression rather than any established statistical trend.
No further updates on Friday's shooting, including the victim's identity or the suspect's name, had been released as of Friday afternoon.
