Social media food reviewer Keith Lee is heading back to Dallas this weekend, but this time he's not grading a stranger's kitchen — he's showing up for family. On Sunday, Nov. 1, Lee will join his brother, former UFC fighter Kevin Lee, for the grand opening of Braised, a comfort-food restaurant landing inside PREP Dallas at 1499 Regal Row, Suite 205.
The event runs from noon to 8 p.m., according to The Dallas Morning News, and the brothers plan to serve complimentary meals to the first 30 customers through the door, limited to one per person. Those early arrivals will be able to choose from any of Braised's six main dishes, per the same report.
Braised traces its roots to Miami, where Kevin Lee first built the concept. The restaurant's own site, BRAISED, describes it starting as a South Florida farmers market stand that grew into a food truck and catering operation before Kevin relocated the brand to Dallas-Fort Worth, where it now focuses on slow-cooked meats, elevated comfort food and catering.
From the Octagon to the Kitchen
Kevin Lee, who BRAISED's website describes as a professional mixed martial artist, entrepreneur and chef, competed for the UFC lightweight world championship before shifting his focus to food, according to Local Profile. In an interview cited by the Dallas Morning News, Kevin said Dallas was the perfect place to move his family, pointing to the city's food scene, and added that he was excited to restart the business and build community in North Texas.
The fighting connection runs in the family. Keith Lee also competed in MMA before becoming a social media food influencer, and the brothers share that background in professional fighting, per the Dallas Morning News. Keith has said food was a pivotal part of fighting and helped build their shared passion for cooking — something he traces back to a childhood full of large family dinners in a household of foodies, with their father described as a great cook.
Oxtail and Pot Pie Take Center Stage
The Braised menu centers on comfort food, including oxtail, braised short ribs and chicken pot pies. Kevin has said oxtails are the dish he's most known for and expects it to be the star of the show at the grand opening, while also recommending the chicken pot pie to newcomers, according to the Dallas Morning News report. Keith named oxtails and chicken pot pie as his two personal favorites on the menu.
Those two dishes already have a track record with Lee's audience. The short ribs and pot pies sold out at Keith Lee's inaugural Familee Day festival earlier this year, according to Local Profile — a result Keith said didn't surprise him, since he considers his brother a really good cook. He's also predicted that Braised will be one of the best restaurants in Dallas.
A Pattern of Sellouts and Surging Crowds
This isn't the first time Keith Lee's presence has translated into a rush on a Braised location. When he made a surprise visit to his brother's Florida restaurant for a review, the spot saw an influx of customers the very next day and sold out in just three hours, according to Because of Them We Can.
The so-called Keith Lee effect has shown up across North Texas before. During a swing through the region in January and February of 2024, Lee visited nine restaurants and food businesses, and more than half of them saw a sales bump afterward, per a Dallas Morning News report on the visits' lasting impact. Some businesses saw lines wrap around their buildings within hours of a review going up; Halal Fusionz expanded from takeout and delivery into a food truck after Lee's 2024 visit, while CeeZoos Bar and Lounge stopped Sunday brunch and focused on a smaller menu. The paper also reported a decline in customers at CeeZoos after Lee's review.
More recently, Lee's appearance at Brooklyn Dumpling Shop in Dallas in March drew hundreds of people, and he joined that brand as an investor in a multiyear partnership — a sign his North Texas food ventures have moved beyond one-off reviews into longer-term business relationships, the Dallas Morning News reported at the time. Whether Braised's grand opening draws a similar crowd remains to be seen, but with free meals on the line for the first 30 guests, early arrival seems like the smart play.
