A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted a fourth suspect in the mass shooting outside Birmingham's Hush Lounge that killed four people and wounded 17 others in 2024. Aaron Orlando Jones-Turpin, 22, of Fairfield, now faces capital murder charges tied to the Sept. 21, 2024, bloodshed in Five Points South, and he remains locked up without bond as the case moves toward arraignment.
The grand jury handed down the indictment on Oct. 2, according to AL.com, charging Jones-Turpin with capital murder of two or more people in what the outlet described as the massacre outside the now-closed club. He is also charged in the assaults of the 17 victims who were wounded but survived that night, and he is set to be arraigned on those charges next month. Separately, WBRC reports Jones-Turpin faces four counts of capital murder and 17 counts of first-degree assault.
Arrest Came After Nearly Two Years
Jones-Turpin was taken into custody on Sept. 11 by Birmingham police's Violent Crimes Apprehension Team at a home in Fyffe, a small DeKalb County town, per the same AL.com report. He remains held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail as the case proceeds. Jones-Turpin remains held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail as the case proceeds.
The gunfire that night killed Tahj Booker, Anitra Holloman, Carlos McCain and Roderick Patterson, all cut down outside Hush on Sept. 21, 2024, the article notes. Shooters fired more than 100 rounds into a crowd waiting outside the lounge, according to WBRC, leaving four dead and 17 wounded in one of Birmingham's deadliest nights in recent memory.
Three Other Suspects Already Face Charges
Jones-Turpin is charged alongside three other men: accused hitman Damien McDaniel, now 24, NyQuan Lollar, 24, and Crishawn McLemore-Bruce, 24, per AL.com's reporting. McDaniel faces a far broader set of charges, accused in the slayings of 18 people and the wounding of 30 others across crimes allegedly committed in Birmingham during 2023 and 2024, including the Hush Lounge shooting and the ambush killing of Jamarcus McIntyre in east Birmingham.
McDaniel is set to go to trial in January for both the Hush Lounge case and the McIntyre killing. No trial date has been reported for Jones-Turpin, Lollar or McLemore-Bruce.
