Foxcroft Food & Wine is closing its Birkdale Village restaurant in Huntersville, with the wine bar and kitchen serving its last meals on October 10. The closure marks the third Foxcroft location to shut down in the past year, following exits in Greenville, South Carolina, and Raleigh.

Foxcroft announced the closure in a social media post, calling it a “difficult decision,” according to the Charlotte Observer. Management invited customers to visit during the restaurant's final days and said it plans to raise a glass with them one last time. The company has not disclosed the specific reason for the closure, and the Observer reported it had requested more information from Foxcroft as the story continued to develop.

The Birkdale location, at 16915 Birkdale Commons Parkway, opened just over two years before October 2026 as Foxcroft's fifth location overall, situated near the shopping center's main lawn and plaza stage, per the Observer's reporting. The restaurant offered 40 wines by the glass alongside house-made pasta, flatbreads, charcuterie, small plates, and salads and seafood dishes. A spokesperson for Birkdale Village told the outlet that Foxcroft becoming a special part of the community made the departure disappointing, framing the closure as part of the company's larger corporate strategy while wishing Foxcroft continued success.

A Rapid Retreat From Outer Markets

The Huntersville closure caps a striking contraction for the Charlotte-born brand. Foxcroft's Greenville, South Carolina restaurant, which had operated for seven years in a historic 4,000-square-foot West End building originally built for the city's first Ford Motor dealership, shut down in October 2025, according to Craveable Carolinas Magazine. That was followed by the shutdown of Foxcroft's Raleigh location in the Lassiter District at North Hills, which closed last month after about 20 months in business, as documented by the Triangle Food Blog.

Founded in 2004 in Charlotte's Foxcroft neighborhood by CEO Conrad James Hunter, a former touring musician and recording studio owner, the company has deep roots in the city, according to Foxcroft's corporate website. Hunter also co-founded Dot Dot Dot, a private speakeasy cocktail lounge that opened in Park Road Shopping Center's backlot in July 2017 alongside mixologist Stefan Huebner, per Dot Dot Dot Charlotte. In 2025, the company rebranded from Foxcroft Wine Co. to Foxcroft Food & Wine to highlight its full-service culinary offerings alongside its retail wine shop and tasting flights, its website states. The wine program itself has been directed since 2017 by Wine Operations Director Shawn Paul, a Certified Sommelier and former Christie's auction house specialist who previously managed wine programs at Michelin-starred restaurants in New York City, according to Midtown Magazine.

Charlotte Becomes the Company's Sole Focus

With the Huntersville shutdown, Foxcroft will consolidate its operations entirely within the Charlotte metro area, running just three remaining locations: SouthPark at 7824 Fairview Road, Dilworth at 1235 East Boulevard, and Waverly at 7416 Waverly Walk Avenue, Suite H-1A. The Waverly location opened in late 2019 as the brand's third Charlotte storefront before its broader Carolinas expansion, according to the Providence Group.

The exit also fits a pattern of wine-focused businesses departing Birkdale Village amid the property's ongoing redevelopment. Birkdale underwent a $55 million overhaul starting in 2021 led by North American Properties and Nuveen to upgrade public event spaces and update its tenant mix, and developer Jamestown won town approval in March 2025 for a further $200 million expansion adding multi-family housing, commercial space, and structured parking. Hoodline previously reported that Corkscrew Wine Shop & Bar was displaced from Birkdale during the 2022 redevelopment before finding a new downtown Huntersville home at The Holbrook at Town Center, slated for 2026.
