The number of residents displaced by the Frankstown Road fire and the extent of damage to the home have not been reported. The American Red Cross is assisting the residents, according to WPXI.
The fire was reported Wednesday at a home on the 8800 block of Frankstown Road, near the Penn Hills–Pittsburgh boundary. WPXI, citing information shared by the Penn Hills No. 7 Volunteer Fire Company, reported that the call came in at about 5:30 p.m. and that departments from both communities responded.
Two dogs were removed from the house, and responders found no one else inside. The fire began in a bedroom and spread to the attic. A hydrant failed at the scene, but crews extinguished the fire, WPXI reported.
The cause of the Frankstown Road fire has not been determined, and the home's damage remains unclear. In a separate July fire in Penn Hills, a dog was rescued while the Penn Hills Fire Marshall continued working to determine the cause, according to WPXI.
A 2019 Penn Hills house fire also ended with a dog rescued and no other injuries reported; the Red Cross assisted three adults with clothing and shelter, according to TribLIVE.
