A man in his 50s has died from gunshot wounds suffered in an East Central Fresno shooting, while his wife remains in critical condition and five children who were inside the home at the time were left physically unharmed. The shooting near Fordham and Dayton avenues, just north of Shields Avenue, has become Fresno's 25th homicide investigation of 2026.
What Happened Near Fordham and Dayton
Fresno police received multiple calls reporting shots fired at around 2:20 p.m. last Sunday, according to ABC30 Fresno. Officers arrived to find a man and a woman with gunshot wounds to their upper bodies and provided aid until emergency medical services and fire personnel arrived. ABC30's October 11 report said the man had died and his wife was expected to survive.
Officers did not know what led to the shooting or whether the victims knew the suspect, per the same account. The suspect fled the scene, and investigators had not released any identifying information about the person or any vehicle involved, warning that the shooter may be armed and dangerous. The firearm used in the attack had not been located as of the initial report.
Victim Dies, Wife Critical, Kids Spared
Fresno police have since confirmed that the male victim died from his injuries, while his wife was critically injured, according to KMPH Fox 26. Five children who were present inside the home during the shooting were left physically unharmed, the station reported. The update transforms what began as a dual-injury call into a homicide investigation with a grieving household at its center.
As reported by ABC30, the fatal shooting marked Fresno's 25th homicide investigation of 2026 as of last Sunday. Fresno police said they planned to investigate the area for the next several hours, searching for evidence and speaking with witnesses and family members to piece together what led to the gunfire.
