Bakersfield is entering Thursday with a wet, unsettled forecast: rain may linger in the morning, and showers or thunderstorms are possible from late morning through the afternoon. The high is expected to reach only about 69 degrees, with temperatures slipping into the mid-60s later in the day. After a stormy 24 hours, a much drier weekend is already lining up.
Flood Watch Runs Through Thursday Evening
The National Weather Service has a Flood Watch in effect for Bakersfield and much of Kern County through Thursday evening. The forecast calls for a 50% chance of rain Thursday, while the broader storm could bring an additional half-inch in the Sierra Nevada and a quarter-inch elsewhere in the forecast area by Thursday evening, according to the National Weather Service.
Residents should watch for water collecting in low-lying areas, clogged drains and temporary flooding on roads. The alert specifically urges extra caution on Highway 58 between mile markers 101 and 103 and near the Borel burn scar, the flood watch says.
Sunshine Returns Friday
Winds should remain light Thursday, with gusts to about 9 mph, so slick roads and reduced visibility will be bigger concerns than strong wind in Bakersfield. Friday should be mostly sunny with a high near 68 and a low around 52 overnight.
Saturday rises to about 74 degrees under sunny skies, while Sunday reaches near 78. Mostly clear nights and light winds are expected to continue through early next week, with highs remaining in the mid-to-upper 70s.
