A stretch of Chinden Boulevard in Garden City that once housed a title loan office is now pulling in coffee drinkers instead. Nowadays Coffee opened during October 2026 at 4295 W. Chinden Blvd., and the shop is already attracting local customers looking for espresso, matcha and house-made pastries in a space with some history behind it.
The shop sits inside a 480-square-foot building that was built in 1956 and, according to BoiseDev, was most recently home to Northwest Title Loans before being painted white and red with a bright yellow awning out front. Nowadays is run by Gail Eldfrick and her husband, Jonah Eldfrick, who launched the concept after nearly a decade working in coffee, the outlet reported.
As first detailed by BoiseDev ahead of the opening, the menu was planned to include espresso drinks with rotating house-made syrups and specials, cream tops, matcha, specialty teas and single-origin drip coffee. A later post from Idaho Family Life described the shop, once open, as serving espresso, house-made syrups, matcha, specialty teas and locally made sourdough pastries — matching the broader plan BoiseDev had laid out months earlier.
A Motto That Matches The Vibe
Nowadays has adopted the motto “The good old days are now,” per Idaho Family Life, a line that fits a shop built inside a decades-old storefront now serving a modern coffee menu. The business is open Wednesday through Sunday, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the owners telling BoiseDev they eventually hope to expand hours to seven days a week.
Seating is intentionally cozy. The Eldfricks told BoiseDev they expect max occupancy to land around 10 seats indoors, with outdoor seating, yard games and flea markets also planned for the lot outside the building.
Part Of A Busy Garden City Coffee Scene
Nowadays is opening into a Garden City coffee market that has been expanding on multiple fronts. Idaho Business Review reported that Black Rock Coffee Bar, which already had eight locations across Boise, Caldwell and Meridian, opened its ninth Treasure Valley shop — and first Garden City location — at 7906 W. Marigold St., Suite 100. The chain, which started as a family-owned business in Oregon in 2008, has since grown to more than 180 locations across seven states, specializing in specialty coffees, teas, smoothies and energy drinks, according to the same report.
Garden City's coffee offerings aren't limited to espresso counters, either. LoveKin Coffee Social Club, located at 217 W. 37th St., Suite A, has turned a former music studio into a community gathering spot, according to KIVI-TV. The club built an app where users can create profiles, share interests, answer prompts and browse other members to arrange meetups, and it hosts weekly events including study nights for guests 16 and older.
Between a scaling national chain, a social-club concept and now a small-batch shop like Nowadays reviving a 1956 building, Garden City's coffee lineup has grown noticeably more crowded in recent months. For now, Nowadays is carving out its own niche on Chinden with a short list of hand-crafted drinks, local sourdough pastries and a storefront that wears its mid-century roots on its sleeve. BoiseDev had reported the building's history and planned menu months earlier, and Idaho Family Life covered the open shop before 103.5 KISS FM published its October 29 post.
