A Dallas County jury sentenced Wesley Dale Roberson, 60, of Garland to 66 years in prison after finding him guilty of continuous sexual abuse of a child younger than 14. Jurors returned the verdict on September 18, following a case that began with Roberson’s October 2021 arrest and led to a July 2022 indictment.
The Irving Journal reported that the verdict and sentence were handed down in Dallas County Criminal District Court No. 5. Roberson was sentenced to 66 years in the custody of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Roberson was arrested in October 2021 and released after posting a $75,000 bond, according to the report. A Dallas County grand jury indicted him in July 2022 on the continuous sexual abuse charge.
Plea, Trial, and Conviction
Roberson pleaded not guilty on September 15; jurors found him guilty three days later. The Garland Police Department investigated the case, and the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office prosecuted it.
The report identifies Amanda Boylan as lead prosecutor and Juan Sandoval as second-chair prosecutor. It also names Dallas County District Attorney’s Office investigator Joe Mundy and victim advocate Nathaly Mendez as members of the case team.
What Comes Next for Roberson
Roberson is to be transferred to Texas Department of Criminal Justice custody to serve his sentence. The Irving Journal reported that the conviction also carries mandatory sex-offender registration requirements.
Parole and registration
Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles policy requires a two-thirds majority vote for parole decisions involving people convicted under Penal Code Section 21.02, which covers continuous sexual abuse of a young child or children. The Board’s policy does not establish Roberson’s parole eligibility or release date; the case report says the conviction carries mandatory sex-offender registration requirements.
