Williamson County officials held a groundbreaking ceremony on October 7, 2026, for a new segment of the Ronald Reagan Boulevard expansion in Georgetown. The county listed October 2, 2026, as the construction start date for the $27 million project, which will add two southbound lanes between Williams Drive and CR 245. The roughly 2.4-mile stretch, known as Segment D1, is anticipated to be completed by summer 2028.
Groundbreaking Marks Latest Milestone on Busy Corridor
The Segment D1 groundbreaking ceremony, first reported by Community Impact, marks a milestone for a stretch of roadway that will see the existing Ronald Reagan Boulevard converted into northbound lanes while crews build new southbound lanes alongside it, separated by a median. Williamson County listed August 31, 2026, as the bid award date for the $26,867,895 contract to Chasco Constructors, LTD., LLP, according to Williamson County records.
Precinct 3 Commissioner Valerie Covey said Ronald Reagan Boulevard is a vital roadway for the area, per the Community Impact report, as nearby communities like Sun City, Parmer Ranch, Highland Village and Somerset Ranch continue to expand. The newspaper's reporting indicates the area is expected to keep attracting both residential and commercial growth in the years ahead.
Funding Traces Back to 2023 Bond Package
Money for the Segment D1 buildout comes from the $825 million Williamson County Road Bond package that voters approved in November 2023, according to a Williamson County fact sheet. The bond funds safety and capacity upgrades across the county's rapidly expanding road network.
The county's vision for the corridor is sweeping. Per Community Impact, the overall Ronald Reagan Boulevard expansion project is divided into five main segments stretching roughly 30 miles from Cedar Park to Georgetown, and planners intend for the entire corridor to eventually become an eight-lane divided highway with frontage roads. Another segment of the project, running from FM 3405 to SH 29, began construction in summer 2024 and is scheduled for completion in summer 2027.
Nearby Projects Already Easing Pressure Points
Segment D1 isn't arriving in a vacuum. On August 31, 2026, the same date Williamson County listed as the Segment D1 bid award date, a northbound SH 195 exit ramp connecting directly to Ronald Reagan Boulevard reached substantial completion, eliminating hazardous cross-traffic turns, according to a county announcement. That ramp was funded through a separate, voter-approved 2019 road bond.
Further north, the county finished a $6.9 million reconstruction of County Road 245, creating an upgraded feeder connector between Ronald Reagan Boulevard and Williams Drive right at Segment D1's northern terminus, Hello Georgetown reported. At the southern end of the segment, a new H-E-B grocery store and fuel station opened in September 2025 at Williams Drive and Ronald Reagan Boulevard, according to Jorgenson Real Estate.
Growth Numbers Driving the Urgency
The pace of construction reflects just how fast this part of Williamson County is growing. U.S. Census Bureau data released in May 2025 showed Georgetown had officially crossed the 100,000-resident mark, reaching 101,344 people after years as one of the nation's fastest-growing cities, per KXAN. Williamson County's regional transportation forecasts project the county's population will roughly double to about 1.6 million residents by 2050.
What Comes After Segment D1
Even once Segment D1 wraps up in summer 2028, the corridor's expansion is far from finished. Williamson County is also looking at future plans for SH 195.
