Grandma Bob's, the Corktown pizzeria known for its Detroit-style square pies, is opening a second location in Detroit's West Village. The new spot is expected to open this fall at 8044 Kercheval, the building that housed Marrow before it closed in June 2026.
According to The Detroit News, the new location will occupy the former Marrow space in West Village and is slated to open this fall. Grandma Bob's opened its original location in 2019 at 2135 Michigan Avenue in Corktown, and the business is part of a hospitality group that also includes Sugar House, Bad Luck Bar and Honest John's.
The pizzeria has built a following on its Detroit-style square pies, including creative pies and vegan options, per the same report. The menu features bar-style and Detroit-style pizzas, vegan and gluten-free options, craft cocktails, boozy shakes and desserts.
A Bigger Footprint With Room for Parties
Unlike the Corktown original, the West Village expansion is set to offer more space to work with. The size of the second location will allow for a larger dining room and more menu items, and there's also space for private parties, the report notes.
Co-owner David Kwiatkowski framed the move as a personal one, telling the outlet, “I'm excited to bring Grandma Bob's to this side of town.” He said he wants a family-friendly neighborhood option with outdoor patio seating, pizza and cocktails within walking distance of home.
Marrow's West Village Exit Opened the Door
The building at 8044 Kercheval Avenue has its own recent history. Marrow opened its West Village location there in 2018, according to Metro Times, before shutting it down this past June.
Marrow's final dinner service at the West Village location ran through Sunday, June 7, Metro Times reported at the time. The butcher shop and restaurant announced it was consolidating operations to put its full focus on its Eastern Market location, a decision that left the Kercheval building available for Grandma Bob's to move in.
From Corktown Quirk to Neighborhood Staple
Grandma Bob's didn't start out with this kind of ambition. When it first opened in Corktown, it was known for unconventional pizzas like coney and taco pies, as Metro Times reported ahead of its debut. The menu grew just a couple months later, when Eater Detroit noted the addition of vegetarian and vegan pizza options and pizza by the slice, bringing the lineup to a total of eight pies.
Now, with a second location planned for fall 2026, Grandma Bob's is set to bring that same square-pie formula to a new side of the city, with more room, more menu items and a spot built for private gatherings.
