Two people remained in critical condition Tuesday after a teenage driver struck them while they were making a DoorDash delivery on East Gate City Boulevard in Greensboro the night before. Police say the man and woman had stopped their vehicle in the right lane just west of Logan Street to drop off an order when a Lexus traveling east hit them as they walked back to their car.

Officers responded at 8:59 p.m. Monday to the 1400 block of East Gate City Boulevard, according to abc45.com. The station reports the Lexus struck the pair as they were returning to their GMC SUV, then crashed into the vehicle itself. Both the man and the woman were hospitalized with serious injuries and remained in critical condition as of Tuesday.

Teen Driver Also Hospitalized

The driver of the Lexus was described by police only as a juvenile and was also taken to the hospital, though with injuries described as minor, per the same report. No further details about the driver's identity, age, or what led to the crash have been released.

The Greensboro Police Department confirmed in a Monday night Facebook post that two people were hospitalized after being seriously injured, matching the account of the collision on East Gate City Boulevard. The department's Crash Reconstruction Unit is now investigating the incident, though the evidence released so far does not establish a cause, fault, or whether any charges will follow.

Road Closures Have Hit the Corridor Before

East Gate City Boulevard has seen major crash-related shutdowns in the past. Greensboro.com previously reported that all lanes of the boulevard at Bennett Street were closed following a separate motor vehicle accident, underscoring how disruptive crashes along the corridor can be for traffic in the area.

For now, the extent of the man and woman's injuries beyond their critical condition has not been disclosed, and police have not released their identities. The investigation into Monday night's crash remains ongoing.
