Greenville starts Tuesday with clear skies and a crisp feel, then sunshine is expected to lift the high to about 75 degrees. Northeast winds of 7 to 12 mph could gust to 18 mph, and rain is not expected. Sunny skies and highs near 78 Wednesday and 84 Thursday continue the warm, dry stretch.
Overnight lows before the weekend
Forecast lows are around 51 Tuesday night, 54 Wednesday night and 57 Thursday night. Friday is expected to remain mostly sunny, with a high near 81 and only a very low chance of rain.
Saturday night has a 50% chance of precipitation. Sunday has a 60% chance of precipitation and a high near 72, with thunderstorms possible. Monday is expected to be cloudy and warmer.
What the rain probabilities do—and do not—say
A higher rain probability signals a greater chance of precipitation at a given point during the stated forecast period; it does not specify how long rain will last or how much of the area it will cover. The National Weather Service explains that a 70% chance is not a prediction that rain will fall for 70% of the day or cover 70% of the forecast area. The probabilities alone do not establish rainfall amounts or local impacts.
A separate historical event illustrates why the weekend forecast should not be confused with a major flood episode: the National Weather Service’s account of South Carolina’s October 1–5, 2015, flood describes record rainfall, more than 20 inches in some areas, and major flooding from central South Carolina to the coast. That was a distinct, exceptional event; it does not establish that Greenville’s current forecast will bring flooding or comparable rainfall.
