Greenville is waking Thursday to clear skies and a calm start near 64 degrees, but the Upstate is about to squeeze another summer-like afternoon out of October. Sunshine will push temperatures toward 88, with no rain expected and only light winds. By Friday evening, a strong cold front will put a quick stop to the heat and set up a much colder weekend.
One More Hot, Sunny Day
Thursday should stay sunny from morning through evening, with temperatures reaching the upper 80s during the afternoon. Friday will begin warm as well, with a high near 86 before southwest winds strengthen and gusts reach up to 24 mph.
The latest National Weather Service forecast describes near-record warmth through Friday, followed by a strong front crossing the region Friday afternoon and evening. Greenville's Friday night low should fall to about 52 degrees as winds turn west-northwest and gust near 28 mph.
Cold Front Changes The Weekend Forecast
Saturday will feel about 20 to 25 degrees colder than Friday, with a high near 63 and a slight chance of rain showers between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The chance of precipitation is only 20%, and most of the day should remain mostly sunny, but the wind will stay busy from the north at 13 to 17 mph.
The update sharpens the weekend turn described in Wednesday's Hoodline forecast, with colder overnight temperatures now expected. Saturday night will dip to around 43 degrees in Greenville, while mountain communities could see widespread frost and some freezing temperatures early Sunday.
Sunny, Chilly Stretch Arrives Sunday
Sunday will be sunny but cool, with a high near 60 and northeast winds around 12 to 17 mph. The dry pattern continues into next week, with highs near 65 Monday, 70 Tuesday and 71 Wednesday, while overnight lows gradually rise from the mid-40s into the upper 40s and low 50s.
No watches, warnings or advisories are posted for the Greenville area. Still, anyone heading into the mountains this weekend should prepare for a sharp shift from short-sleeve heat to gusty winds, frost and genuine jacket weather.
