Greenwood Village celebrated the grand opening of a new pump track at Village Greens Park, which drew a strong turnout. The event included an appearance by the Cherry Creek High School mountain bike team.
“What a great turnout for the grand opening of Greenwood Village's new pump track at Village Greens Park, including an appearance by the Cherry Creek High School mountain bike team!” Arapahoe County Government wrote in a social media post celebrating the event. The Cherry Creek High School mountain bike team, which operates as part of the Creek Outdoor Leadership Training Club and is open to students from any high school in the Cherry Creek School District, according to cchsadventure.com, showed up for the milestone. The team already counts Village Greens park among its regular ride locations, the same site notes.

A Years-Long Project Finally Rolls Out
The pump track wasn't a sudden addition. Project documents reviewed by the county's planning records show the facility was included in Greenwood Village's 2023-2027 Capital Improvement Plan, with funding allotted back in February 2023, per the same account. Those early planning documents, as described by constructionjournal.com, called for the track to be built with asphalt, described at the time as nearly maintenance-free compared to a dirt alternative, though the evidence does not confirm whether that material choice carried through to the finished product.
Funding for the project came together through a cost-share arrangement: the earlier plans called for Greenwood Village to cover a 25% match against a 75% grant from Arapahoe County Open Spaces, the construction records indicate. That structure lines up with how Arapahoe County has described the track more broadly, listing it among a handful of funded recreation projects that also include trail connectivity work in Littleton and Centennial and an inclusive playground in Englewood, according to arapahoeco.gov.
Built to Complement an Existing Trail Network
The new pump track was designed to work alongside, not replace, what's already on the ground at Village Greens North. Early planning documents stated that a pump track would complement the existing mountain bike course there, the construction records show. That existing course is no small setup: Village Greens North already features a 1.2-mile loop walking and biking trail that links to the regional Cherry Creek Trail, according to greenwoodvillage.com, along with a roughly 2.75-mile mountain bike skills course containing more than 100 obstacles.
How It Stacks Up Against Other Colorado Pump Tracks
Greenwood Village's project arrives as other Colorado mountain towns invest in similar infrastructure. In Fraser, a $1 million bike park and pump track officially opened as a free, all-ages recreational attraction near downtown, according to 9news.com. That facility took two years to build and received design assistance from nearby Winter Park Resort, the station reported.
