A gunshot rang out inside the Imperial Manor Apartments on Stone Road in Greece around 3:30 a.m. Friday, sending police officers and K9 units swarming the complex as they hunted for whoever pulled the trigger. Hours later, the suspect remained at large and crime-scene tape still ringed part of the property.
Police Call It a Targeted Shooting
Greece Police say they are investigating gunfire inside the apartment building, and 13WHAM reports officers believe the shooting was targeted rather than random. The shot was reported at Imperial Manor Apartments on Stone Road, and as of early Friday, no suspect had been taken into custody. As a report relayed via Yahoo News put it, “it is an active investigation, there are no suspects in custody.”
Investigators confirmed that a person was found dead after gunfire at Imperial Manor Apartments. Despite the alarming scene, police maintained there was no broader danger, stating there is no threat to the community.
K9 Units and Crime Tape Cover the Complex
Photojournalists on scene saw Greece police officers and K9 teams searching around the grounds of Imperial Manor Apartments, with one unit taped off as part of the investigation. Separately, WHEC reported that a photojournalist saw nearby areas cordoned off by crime scene tape. 13WHAM said it planned to provide live updates through the morning on Fox Rochester as the search for the shooter continued.
A Complex With a History of Gunfire Calls
This is not the first time shots have been reported at a Greece apartment complex. A Greece man was arrested in October 2025 after a rifle was reportedly fired inside an apartment early one Sunday morning, according to RochesterFirst. Months later, in April 2026, three juveniles and a 22-year-old man faced charges after shots were fired into a Greece home, a case that according to 13WHAM also led to a stolen-car pursuit.
Crime Trends in Greece Head Downward
The incident comes as Greece has otherwise been logging improving crime numbers. Index crime fell 7% during the first five months of 2026 across 28 New York police departments taking part in the state's Gun Involved Violence Elimination initiative, according to FingerLakes1.com. Greece was among 11 participating departments that reported double-digit percentage decreases in overall index crime, and among nine departments that saw double-digit declines in violent crime specifically during that same stretch.
For now, the overnight gunfire at Imperial Manor Apartments remains unresolved, with police continuing to search for a suspect while withholding details on injuries or a motive beyond their belief that the shooting was targeted.
