A man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after gunfire tore into a members-only social club in Allentown in the middle of the night, police said. Officers responded around 12:45 a.m. Monday to a report of someone firing into a building at 311 N. Hall St., where they found the injured man and began first aid before he was rushed to a nearby hospital.
The gunfire erupted near Liberty Fire Company Social Club on North Hall Street, according to WFMZ, which reported that officers gave the person first aid before ambulance crews brought him to the hospital. As Shore News Network reported, Allentown EMS transported the man to an area hospital after officers located him at the North Hall Street address. Police described his injuries as non-life-threatening but did not specify how he was hurt.
Members-Only Hall Targeted Overnight
Police confirmed the shots were fired at Liberty Fire Hall No. 5, a members-only social club, according to Assistant Chief James Gress, per lehighvalleylive.com. Officers had responded about 12:45 a.m. Monday to the report of an armed person firing into the building, the outlet noted. Police released no information about the suspect, a possible motive or what preceded the shooting.
The investigation remains active, and police said there is no threat to the community, per mcall.com. No arrest has been announced. Investigators asked anyone with information to contact Allentown detectives at 610-437-7721 or the police desk at 610-437-7753, extension 1.
Not the First Shooting to Rattle the City
This is far from the first time gunfire has disrupted an Allentown neighborhood in recent memory. Last September, a man was hurt in a shooting that began around 9:45 p.m. in the 500 block of North Jordan Street, and he later walked into an area hospital with serious injuries, according to lehighvalleylive.com's earlier reporting. Witnesses and the victim in that case did not cooperate with authorities, and police said the investigation remained active and ongoing.
Allentown has also seen shootings cluster on the same day before. WFMZ previously reported that police responded to a second shooting that injured at least one person in the city on a Tuesday evening, while a separate shooting just before 7 p.m. that same day left at least one person dead on the 600 block of Gordon Street. It was not known if those two incidents were related in any way, the outlet noted. No connection has been established between those earlier cases and Monday's shooting near Liberty Fire Hall No. 5.
