A man is still on the run after allegedly pulling a gun on an employee during a robbery at a West Side San Antonio business Saturday night. San Antonio police say the confrontation began when the suspect tried to leave with merchandise he hadn't paid for, and escalated fast once he came back for it.
Officers responded around 8 p.m. Saturday to a call about a suspicious person with a gun in the 9300 block of South Zarzamora Street, according to WOAI. Police say the suspect had entered the business, picked out several items, and then walked outside toward an unidentified black vehicle without paying.
Confrontation Turns Physical, Then Armed
Rather than driving off, the man went back inside to grab the unpaid merchandise, the station reports, which triggered a physical altercation with an employee. During that scuffle, the suspect allegedly displayed a firearm and threatened the worker before taking off on foot, per the same account.
No description of the suspect, his age, or his vehicle has been released, and it's unclear whether the gun was ever recovered. The identity of the business and the employee involved also has not been made public.
A Familiar Stretch of Zarzamora Street
This isn't the first violent robbery reported along South Zarzamora Street this year. Back in July, a 21-year-old clerk working at the North Star Food Mart on the 1700 block was attacked after a suspect was refused service, struck in the head several times, and allegedly threatened with being shot, according to FOX San Antonio. Crime Stoppers later offered up to $5,000 for tips leading to a felony arrest in that earlier case, the outlet reported.
Citywide, San Antonio's overall crime numbers moved in the opposite direction last year. From January through November 2025, reported robberies fell 16.4% and total crime dropped more than 13% compared with the same period in 2024, according to KSAT. The station noted that SAPD cautioned those figures aren't final, since reports can shift due to reclassification, ongoing investigations, or delayed victim reporting. Whether that decline carries into 2026 or reflects what's happening along Zarzamora Street specifically isn't something the available data can answer.
No arrest has been reported in Saturday's incident, and police have not released a case number or additional details. For now, the suspect remains unidentified and at large.
